Dr. Robert Ornelas created the Dr. Ralph Dee Honor Award in 2012 to recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to communities in Native Nations, United States and the world.
The Honor Award recipients are leaders who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating the highest proficiency in their fields: they have defined our culture and developed our communities. Through service, these recipients have created the next generation of leaders by challenging communities to tackle tough issues to create positive impacts around the United States and the world.

“For over 25 years, Dr. Ralph Dee has been one of the unsung heroes fighting to protect the freedom of his family, Navajo nation and tribal nations in North America,” said Dr. Robert Ornelas. “I have witnessed Dr. Dee demonstrate exceptional abilities to lead, serve, inspire, and collaborate with broad impact throughout the United States. It is a tremendous honor to be the co-founder of this prestigious honor award that is personally authorized by Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly.
This award recognizes excellence in leadership, especially
as it benefits communities through teaching, research, learning, and
foundational innovated approaches to practice.”
